HAPPY NEW YEAR (AGAIN?)
For those who celebrate, Happy Chinese New Year this week.
For everyone else that wants a redo on January's intentions -

this a great time to take advantage of the "fresh start effect"
This is our human tendency to make our new habits and resolutions start on a natural beginning (January, Monday, the 1st, my next birthday, etc).

So use the power of it being Monday, February, and/or the Chinese New Year...
to declare another fresh start.
But your'e not starting from zero -
you're starting with another month of experience!

And also, this whole trying to change yourself thing can really
ignite the shame gremlins (credit Brene Brown for that term).

The negative thoughts like:
"I'm not smart enough/good enough"
"I should be able to do this by now"
"I'm so far behind everyone else"

The antidote for shame is experiencing empathy.
And that starts with empathy towards yourself
otherwise known as SELF-COMPASSION.
Or also, radical compassion (thanks to the work of  Tara Brach)

Grab my free month end review worksheet and use it to take a compassionate inventory of January -
Often people are surprised when they do this at just
HOW MUCH
w e n t    w e l l

Use this worksheet to help focus your attention and intentions
for the month of February.
And then stay with me throughout this month to look at
LOVE from all angles -
towards yourself, to your helpers and resources, your young genius (credit to Jeffrey Davis) and to your wise Future Self.

If you need one journaling habit to help build compassion towards yourself....this is the one!
OTHER STUFF YOU MIGHT LOVE

LOVE STORYTELLING?
Check out Dr. Janet Courtney's recorded course
on FirstPlay Kinesthetic Storytelling and learn how to spread the love with The Magic Rainbow Hug (and other stories).  And if you're a heart-rock collecting nature lover like she is, be sure to grab her book on Healing Child and Family Trauma through Expressive and Play Therapies.  It is required reading, in my humble opinion and you can get APT credits from Dr. Courtney for reading it and passing a quiz.

LOVE NORTH CAROLINA?
I DO

Join me, Dr. Courtney and the NC Association for Play Therapy in March.
Dr. Courtney and I will be in North Carolina on March 11-12 presenting together on nature based play and family therapy AND play therapy supervision.  We are so grateful to the entire NCAPT board and their members for giving us the chance to connect IN PERSON!

SUPERCHARGE YOUR SELF-COMPASSION MUSCLES
Last call for 4 days of self-care in San Diego!
We are going to be breathing together, using expressive arts techniques and journaling as part of the trifecta of self-care needed as a busy play therapist.  We took this photo at the Hawaii retreat but I've got a new idea for San Diego photo!  I want you to be in it!
(APT/NBCC Credits available)

PARTNER SPOTLIGHT:
Ragan Snyder-Smith of Ad Astra Play Therapy
I fell in love with Ragan after taking her LEGO based play therapy course back in 2020. It helped me survive virtual schooling during the early days of pandemic.  I tested her techniques on my own children and they were a big hit! Check out all of Ragan's recorded courses and find her amazing line-up of live webinars planned for 2022.

LOVE YOUR JOURNAL
If the budget allows, consider gifting yourself
a new journal
or create a special folder
where you can keep all of your
monthly review worksheets.

Look for a FOLDER in a color or pattern that you LOVE
Find a journal with a picture or saying that INSPIRES you

Choose a GOOD PEN or a few different COLORED MARKERS

Don' worry if you didn't start last month.
