You're making progress even when you "fail"

PERMISSION TO REST....is not failure
When you set a goal to create a new habit
and then you "break the chain"
(meaning you miss a workout, you eat the sugar, etc)
do you consider that a failure?
Most people do.
But this month we are talking about compassion
towards your Self.

What does that look like in practice?
Well, I set a goal in 2022 to write and publish a blog every week
(on Friday)
I did that in January.  You can see them all here.
This week my plan was to write you about the value of
Artist's Dates.
(a concept from the Julia Cameron book, The Artists Way).
But instead of writing about it, I took myself on an Artist date -
And now here it is Friday and I have no blog to link in this email.

Failure??
Uhmm, no.
WHY?
1). This "deadline" is self-imposed.  While consistency and predictability are good, sometimes other things take priority and the world will certainly not end if I don't write a blog this week.
2). I really do want to write that blog and I might get to it this weekend. I will probably be happier with the result if I allow it to happen later this week then if I force myself to stay up late writing it today.
3). I did some other really great things this week: planning for the San Diego workshop, planning for the presentation in North Carolina next month, and work on some other writing projects.

I have permission to  change the plan.

Would you consider that a failure?
Absolutely NOT.
So, please take a look at your own lists.
Look at what didn't get done or what you wish you could change and
show yourself some compassion.

If you're curious about my Artists Date, I can tell you it involved Valentine's crafts and decorations and alcohol (but not the kind you drink!).  I promise to tell you more about it next week.
MORE ON PERMISSION

PLAY THERAPY SYMPOSIUM
Check out what Jackie Flynn has going on for Play Therapy Week
I was one of MANY wonderful therapists invited to speak at Jackie Flynn's upcoming Play Therapy Symposium.
I talk about PERMISSION IN THE PLAYROOM and have a free worksheet to help you explore this concept.
Wait until you see this line-up of speakers!!!  Oh, and it's FREE if you keep up with the presentations each day or you can purchase a pass to get everything to watch on your own time.  If you know me from the 2017 Play Therapy Summit, you know the drill.  It's the same concept but BIGGER and BETTER than ever!  (Use my affiliate link to let Jackie know that I sent ya!)

JEN'S JOURNAL PROMPT

Imagine that you have the MONEY AND TIME and PERMISSION
for something fun or interesting.

Make a list of 10 things that you would do just for fun.

If I had money and time, I would go...
If I had money and time, I would go....

If I had money and time, I would do....
If I had money and time, I would do...

If I had money and time, I would take....
If I had money and time I would take...

If I had money and time, I would start....
If I had money and time, I would start...

What do you notice about your list?
