It's Play Therapy Week
Sending love to all of my play therapy friends
and all of the families that I have worked with over the years.

This week is the perfect week to have a play date.
With your fur-babies.
With your kids.
With your spouse.
With your friends.
or better yet - Solo.

Play therapy is part of my core being.
Over the years, I have added to that core with training in expressive arts like: Sand Tray and Guided Drawing.
More recently, I have expanded my work into expressive writing.

I realized that these are all just other forms of PLAY for me.
Playing with words is not much different than
playing with sand or art supplies or toys.

That's what those Artist's Dates that I talked about last week are all about - they're really just play dates.

Please take some time this week to P L A Y

PS.
It's actually the secret to getting more done.

I've found that time expands
when you carve out a piece of your work week
to really just enjoy yourself.

Need PERMISSION to play?
I created a few Artist Date tickets to give you some ideas.
And to remind you that PLAY doesn't have to be complicated.

They're just ideas - think about what lights you up.
Go do that this week in honor of
National Play Therapy Week.

AND SPREAD THE LOVE

DR. BREE CONKLIN
Spread the love campaign
My most loving friend in the world has an animal sanctuary called Starlight Care Farm with goats and horses and pigs and a donkey.  And, she's invited me to be the Chair of her non-profit board!
These animals (all with a history of abuse or neglect) now get to spend the rest of their lives playing and cuddling and getting all the LOVE in the world.
And they've created some super cute Valentine's cards (like the one up top) to help you spread the love and brighten someone's day.
Grab yours (FREE) on the Starlight Care farm Facebook Page and tag someone you love.  Then spread some love back to them through a charitable donation to help care for these animals.

BOOKS I LOVE:
POETRY BOOKS!
There's really nothing more playful than poetry. It's the ultimate childhood experience to read little notes that say "rose are red, violets are blue...."
We grow up and think that we can't write poetry, but I have found out
THAT IS A LIE.
Get inspired by reading some really awesome poems in this great collection called "How to Love the World: Poems of Gratitude and Hope" edited by James Crews.
And then follow the prompt below to write your own poems today.

JEN'S JOURNAL PROMPT
You CAN write poetry, I promise.

First, imagine that you are 8 years old again.

1. Draw a shape, like a heart and, write an
"ode to something you love" within that shape. For example,
"ode to jellybeans"
OR
2.  Flip through a magazine and cut out 10-20 words or phrases that call out to you.
Arrange them on a piece of paper to form your poem.

VOILA! You're a poet!
