I spent the weekend in San Diego with some amazing play therapists co-leading a self-care retreat with a theme about
anchoring in the storm.
We learned about the stress response in the nervous system, attachment patterns, resiliency and finding gratitude and meaning in the challenges. We focused on ways to
Reflect, Connect & Rebuild
People think that the work of play therapists is
all fun and games.
Yes, we have toys. Yes, we play games.
But, children and families are hurting.
And the work these children do in the playroom is not always fun.
Often the play is about really, really hard stuff.
And children come to the playroom looking for someone that "gets it."
Someone that speaks their language.
Many play therapists are the ONLY play therapist at their agency.
Or in their community. Some even in their whole city.
So they came to San Diego looking for people that "get it"
People that speak the language of play therapy.
And part of that language is speaking through metaphors.
Another part is finding people who can hold space
for you to show up in any condition and be exactly as you are.
When you hear the announcement about the next
Anchoring in the Storm event,
give yourself an opportunity to experience what it is like to
reflect, connect and rebuild
Here's a small glimpse into what that would be like for you.
