It begins with THIS single step.

PLEASE JOIN US
We're going to KENYA next summer!

And I hope you will join us.
I know, it sounds amazing and slightly impossible.

And, anything big and impossible has to be broken down into smaller chunks so that it feels manageable.

And the first chunk is this International Ethics Training on June 24th.
WHY?

We created this training because there is a standard in study abroad programs to include learning on intercultural ethics, imperialism, power/privilege and all the "what not to do" things that we sometimes do unintentionally when we travel.

We wanted to make it clear that this is not voluntoursim.
Our goal is create long-standing relationships and opportunities for mutual learning.

And in the Ethics training, you will meet and learn from Vice-Chair of the APT Kenya Board, Florence Ochanda.
And let me tell you - she is so wise and I am really excited to learn from her!

Throughout the next year, you will learn from and train alongside  other play therapists currently serving children in Kenya so that when we arrive in Nairobi in August 2023,
you will be meeting your friends and colleagues.

PS.
You can come to the training
even if you don't think you can come to Kenya.
Come just because this training meets the criteria for the APT social diversity requirement. OR come just because you want to see what we are up to.

Follow your curiosity and see where it takes you.

JEN'S JOURNAL
PERMISSION SLIPS

One of my favorite writing prompts is the permission slip. Start with your name,
JEN, you have permission to....

Give yourself permission to do something that feels impossible.
Put it in writing.
SIGN IT.

Remember, permission is not the same as decision.
Permission to go to Kenya is not the same as booking a flight.
But it does keep the door open.

And I like open doors. They feel like freedom.
