Martin Luther King
was considered one of MOST HATED men in America in 1967.
He was assassinated in Memphis, TN in 1968.
A small campaign to make a celebration of his life into a national holiday began four days after his death.
But not everyone agreed. They fought against it.
It was not an easy thing to get done. At all.
It took a lot of time and energy to start to change peoples minds.
President Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law in 1983.
The actual holiday was first observed three years later in 1986.
It wasn't until the year 2000 that Martin Luther King Day
was observed in all 50 states.
I think about how difficult it is to be disliked.
How does it feel to be hated?
How would it feel to be hated by nearly everyone?
The ability to keep going when everyone is against you is amazing.
How can you put that lesson into practice today?
What are you willing to do even if it takes 15 years (or longer)
to get done?
