If you have standards, you will fail...

That was the message in this short podcast from the Next Big Idea Daily and a helpful reframe to start the week.

Failing to meet your own standards can be okay - it means your are human and that you are striving for excellence.  These failures might be really small things or they could be really big important things - either way, there will be many times that you do not  live up to the expectations that you have for yourself.

But, what I liked about hearing it put so bluntly in this podcast episode, "if you have standards, you will fail"
was the reminder that not only is failure okay,
but it is REQUIRED.

In that podcast episode, he goes on to say that "the only way to never fall short of moral standards is to just not have any."

....

Your failures are evidence of your standards - not something to be afraid of, ashamed of, or avoided.

Take a few minutes to reflect on the "failures" of last week and appreciate how they are actually getting you closer to your big goals.
JEN'S JOURNAL
Make a list of things that you have done in the past week that felt like letdowns or failures.

Now, flip that failure around and look at the standard that you have set for yourself in that area.

Spend a few minutes thinking about why that standard is important to you and why having it (and sometimes failing to meet it) is actually part of your  growth and success.
